Spring is Practically in Bloom!
Puxatawny Phil promised us six more weeks of winter, and several of those have already passed. So, Spring is about to start "bustin' out all over." Time to pull away from the fireplace, put away the warm blankets and gear up for lots of fun goings-on out in the world beyond your doorstep... There's lots going on at Osondu's these days that is sure to coax you our way - our popular new Lite Lunch Menu that has diners stopping in regularly between 11 and 3; our 5pm Friday afternoon "Wine Downs" that give folks a chance to socialize a bit before heading home for the weekend; our "Community Conversations" that bring citizens together around topics of mutual interest; our Appalachian Anthology" series celebrating our place and our history, particularly in this Bicentennial year; and, our Word Game Nites (every fourth Friday) that have speed-Scrabblers, Bogglers, and all other manner of "wordphile" coming back for more each month! Of course, we continue to host writers of every ilk - creators of fiction and non-fiction, essayists and editors, poets and prophets (actually haven't had a prophet for a while now) - and we plan "authorless" events every now and then to round out the schedule. And, what would a bookstore be without books?? Check out our recommendations here; order online and bring in your receipt for a 10% discount. People of the Book
by Brooks, Geraldine
Admirers of Geraldine Brooks (and great literature in general) will be delighted by this beautifully fashioned novel. The ancient Haggadah she uses as the centerpiece of the story travels through the centuries and illuminates the lives of its various keepers, as well as each historical era. Detailing both ancient history and the complex life and times of its modern restorer, this novel delivers an amazing richness and a marvelous story!--Karen M. Frank, Northshire Bookstore (Manchester Center, VT)
